One possibility is that the type I IFN receptor is able to participate in more than one signal transduction pathway and that these pathways are differentially activated after binding different IFN.     Recent experiments from this laboratory, in which large numbers of ovIFN-т cDNA were screened from reverse-transcribed mRNA obtained from Day 12-13, Day 15-16, and Day 18-19 ovine conceptuses, have indicated that the most abundant ovIFN-т is a рЗ-like transcript, termed p8 by Klemann et al.. The p3 and p8 mRNA differ at three nucleotides in their coding regions, and the two proteins differ at only three amino acid positions.     The antiserum to ovIFN-t-s4 significantly reduced antiviral activity of all three variants (p < 0.05), but its effect was markedly greater on s4 than on p6 (p < 0.05), with its effect on p3 being intermediate between that on the other two variants (Table 1). Although antiserum to native ovIFN-т reduced antiviral activity of s4 (p < 0.05), the effect was relatively modest. By contrast, this antiserum almost completely inhibited activity of p3 and p6 (p < 0.05) (Table 1). The influence of nonimmune rabbit serum on antiviral activity was not examined in this study, and its nonspecific effect may account for the slight depression in antiviral activity that was observed in all treatments. flovent inhaler
